ENDOWMENT FUND OF BDT 1.5 CRORE FOR BUHS BY DR KM MAQSUDUR RAHMAN TRUST

The Chairman (State Minister) of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh has said that the Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) is already playing an important role in higher education and research in the country as a unique academic center of excellence. He was speaking as the Chief Guest in the Declaration Ceremony of two Endowment Funds donated by Dr KM Maqsudur Rahan Trust for conduction of research and improvement of English language skill among teachers and students of the Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) –the first private University in the country in health sector. The Ceremony was organized yesterday in the UGC Auditorium where Prof Atful Hye Shibly, Member of UGC was present as the Special Guest. The Ceremony, chaired by Prof AK Azad Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustee and President of BADAS, was also addressed by the Secretary General of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (the Sponsor of BUHS) Mr M Sayef Uddin and the Chair of the Trust donating the Fund, Dr KM Maqsudur Rahman. Prof Liaquat Ali, Vice-Chancellor of BUHS delivered the Welcome Address.

In his speech the Chief Guest recollected the great contribution of Late National Professor Dr M Ibrahim and his successors in health care, human resource generation and in medical research. Admiring Dr Rahman for the outstanding contribution, he strongly hoped that BUHS would carry forward this rich tradition and would play a leading role in creating a knowledge-based society by establishing itself as a research-based university. In his speech Prof Atful Hye Shibly praised BUHS for giving high importance to research and expressed his deep appreciation to Dr KM Maqsudur Rahman Trust for coming forward to support research especially in a private university. Other speakers thanked the present leadership of UGC for their whole-hearted effort to improve the standard of education and research in private universities and they expressed gratitude to the present government for positive policies and steps in this regard. At the end of the ceremony the Chairman of the Trust – Dr KM Maqsudur Rahman-handed over a cheque of tk One Crore & Fifty Lac to the Chairman, Board of Trustee, BUHS.
